  2. Select the date you want to calculate your age on. This can be today or another date.

  4. View your age in years, months, and days.

For most uses, leave the reference date set to today.

Age calculation example

Suppose a person was born on 12 March 2000 and wants to calculate their age on 21 September 2026.

The calculator compares the date of birth with the selected reference date.

The result is:

26 years, 6 months, and 9 days

Your exact result will depend on the date you choose as the reference date.

How age is calculated

Age is not calculated by simply subtracting the birth year from the current year.

The calculator checks whether the person has reached their birthday in the selected year. It then calculates the remaining full months and days between the birth date and the reference date.

For example, a person born in December may still be one year younger in September of the same calendar year because their birthday has not yet happened.

Why the reference date matters

Your age changes over time, so every age calculation needs a reference date.

You can use this calculator to find:

When completing a form, always check whether it asks for your age today, your age on a specific date, or your age at the end of a particular year.

Birthdays and milestone dates

The calculator can help you check upcoming age milestones.

For example, you may want to know:

For an upcoming milestone, enter your date of birth and use the event date as the reference date.

Leap years and February birthdays

A leap year has 366 days, including 29 February.

If a person is born on 29 February, their birthday occurs only in leap years. In a non-leap year, different organisations may treat the relevant birthday as either 28 February or 1 March, depending on their policy or local rules.

For everyday planning, this calculator provides a calendar-based age result. For legal, government, immigration, school, insurance, or employment purposes, always follow the rule stated by the organisation handling the record.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see my age in total days or months instead of years?

The calculator returns years, months, and days, which you can convert: multiply the years by 12 and add the
months for total months. For total days, count the days between the two dates directly roughly, each year
averages 365.25 days including leap years. For milestone planning (“1,000 days old”), a total-days figure is
often more fun than the calendar breakdown.

Does the calculator account for time zones?

No it works with calendar dates, not times of day. If you were born late at night in one time zone and now
live in another, the date-based result doesn’t shift. For everyday planning that’s exactly right; only legal
or record-keeping situations with specific cut-off times need finer precision, as the page’s notes explain.

What generation am I?

Enter your birth date, note the birth year, and match it: Gen Z is roughly 1997–2012, Millennials 1981–1996,
Gen X 1965–1980, and Boomers 1946–1964. Boundaries vary slightly by source, so treat them as cultural
shorthand rather than exact science. It’s a fun use of the exact birth-year figure the calculator confirms.

I was born on February 29 when do I celebrate in non-leap years?

Your call: most leap-day babies pick February 28 or March 1. The page notes that organizations differ some
use the 28th, others March 1 so for anything official, follow their rule. For cake purposes, pick the date
you like; the calculator handles the calendar math either way.

Does the calculator store my date of birth?

No. Like every tool on ToolsByMeh, it runs entirely in your browser your birth date is never sent to a
server, stored, or tied to an account. There are no sign-ups. Refresh the page and your entries are gone.

Important notes

This Age Calculator is designed for general information and planning. It does not replace an official identity record, birth certificate, passport, school record, or legal determination of age.

Age rules can vary when an application, contract, benefit, school, travel provider, insurer, or government authority uses a specific cut-off time, time zone, or legal definition. Check the relevant organisation’s instructions when accuracy has legal or financial importance.
